I exhaled and leaned forward, launching into the memory. “He flat-out refused to budge.” My tone was tight, the memory still twisting my gut. “Mason isn’t stupid—he thinks the vampires don’t pose a threat to him anymore.”
Noah’s scowl deepened. “How are we supposed to defend ourselves against a vampire uprising with no support from the Alpha? Did he explain the sudden reversal?”
I kept my voice measured, unwilling to reveal Mason’s exact words. “He wouldn’t give me details. All he said was that, after meeting with them, he no longer sees them as a danger to his pack.”
At that, Liam’s levity disappeared. His grin evaporated, replaced by the dark intensity characteristic of his Enforcer side. “What the hell does that mean?” he growled. “How can he be so sure? And if he’s walking away, what does that leave for the rest of us?”
