“What do we do now?” I whispered, my voice hoarse with anxiety. My legs trembled beneath me as I shakily rose to my feet, following Noah’s lead. The night air was bitterly cold, each breath a sharp sting in my lungs, but I barely noticed. My heart pounded so loudly I was certain it filled the silence that stretched between us.
“No time to waste,” Noah replied, pressing his lips together into a tight line. His expression was grim, a steady weight in the depths of his eyes. “We shift. We travel as wolves. We need to move quickly.”
His words sent a cold shiver creeping down my spine. What if we were already too late? Even though our mate bond granted us accelerated healing, I couldn’t shake the dread that gnawed at my gut. Was Daniel’s injury beyond even our bond’s power to fix? My throat tightened, and I swallowed hard.
