Night had fallen hours ago, casting deep shadows through the trees and marking the end of one of the most harrowing days of my life.

Not long after Daniel and I had mated—a moment of fierce intensity that bound us irrevocably together—the group agreed to seek aid from the vampires. That meant Daniel and Noah returned to the forest. My Wolf, loyal and anxious, whimpered at leaving her mate behind, but she sensed the looming threat: every moment I stayed near Daniel risked Alpha’s suspicion and wrath. It was safer to lay low in the cave, apart from him, until we knew where our loyalties—and dangers—truly lay.

But waiting in the darkness was torture. Each second crawled by, my thoughts twisting and spinning in restless loops.

Daniel and Skyler couldn’t depart until five o’clock, once Alpha had checked in on Daniel and debriefed him on their latest events. Surprisingly, that meeting had gone off without bloodshed. Noah had kept me informed via mindl
