The vampire’s sudden entrance altered everything. The pack recoiled at the surge of power he emanated: formidable, otherworldly, a predator unbound by natural law. My muscles quivered, still wet with the sting of battle, but also with awe. I wanted to hate him for what he was—blood-drinking, unholy—but I could not deny he had saved Elizabeth. For now, I would hold judgment.
