Chapter 67. Closure Sucks
Selena closed the distance between herself and the house, standing right in front of the door. Then she remembered that her mom usually worked on weekdays, so there was a good chance the woman might not even be inside.
Nevertheless, she rang the doorbell and waited. She had already come this far; it would be stupid just to turn around and go back without even trying. Heart racing in her chest, she rang it again.
A few long seconds passed, and just when she was about to turn and leave, the door made a sound as it was being opened from the inside. When it pulled open, she saw her mom standing there. The woman held a glass of wine weakly in her hand. She was wearing a stained robe, and her hair looked like she had just crawled out of bed.
“Selena…” she said, her eyes filled with emotion, and a flicker of hope. She smiled softly. “You’re here.” Her smile faded slight
