Chapter 74. Loud Silences

The silence in the room was loud; everyone just kept looking at each other. Then, the man who had been sitting next to Elijah stood up and excused himself, walking out as well.

As soon as the door closed, Councilman Vance decided to resume the meeting. “Let’s let Elijah be; he’s just angry. He will be fine.”

Maddox sat there, happy that no charges had been brought against him. He had been so nervous about that, but now that he was off the hook, he couldn’t help but feel some guilt gnawing at him. He felt terrible for breaking the guy’s hand.
