June POV
My head rests against the edge of the bed, heavy with exhaustion. The steady beep of the monitor lulls me somewhere between waking and sleep.
Then— I feel him move, his fingers twitching weakly against the sheets.
I jolt upright, blinking the sleep from my eyes just in time to see his lids flutter open.
“Hermes…” My voice comes out in a sigh of relief, shaky, almost breaking. “You’re awake.”
He blinks at me, dazed, as if the world is too bright. I lean closer, my eyes searching his face. “Are you… are you feeling okay now?”
He doesn’t answer right away, and my throat tightens.
In the silence, my thoughts scatter back to those frantic hours earlier—me shouting for help in the hotel suite, my hands trembling as I tried to shake him awake, the hotel staff rushing in.
