Kelly POV
The moment my fingers closed around the hospital doors, I pushed them open and stepped into the night like I was escaping something that had already reached too far inside.
Cold air hit my face immediately, sharp and unforgiving, but it didn’t steady me. It only made the tremor in my hands more obvious, like the outside world was finally catching up to what was happening inside me.
My breath came in short, uneven pulls as I moved a few steps away from the entrance, trying to create distance, trying to think clearly enough to make sense of what had just changed.
Because something had changed.
He was free.
And worse than that, he hadn’t waited.
He had made sure I knew.
My phone was still in my hand, the screen glowing faintly with the same message that refused to stop existing no matter how many times I looked away from it.
“Justice hasn’t been served.”
