Chapter 125
Kelly POV
The moment I stepped into my father’s hospital room, I exhaled a breath I didn’t even realize I had been holding in.
For a second, I told myself I was safe here. That whatever was happening outside those walls couldn’t reach me in a place like this. My heartbeat was still too fast from Davis’s message, still uneven from Adrian’s voice on the phone, but at least I had somewhere familiar to ground myself.
Or so I thought.
Because something was wrong.
Not subtle wrong.
Immediate wrong.
The room was too quiet in a way that didn’t belong to hospitals. No steady machine rhythm. No soft electronic beeping in the background. No quiet reminders that someone was still fighting to stay.
Just stillness.
Too much of it.
My eyes moved slowly across the space, confusion tightening in my chest as I took in the bed first.
The sheets were smooth.
Too smooth.
Like no one had disturbed them in a while.
