Stepping outside the house, I pulled the cold evening air deep into my lungs and held it there, letting the chill settle for a moment. My phone kept buzzing inside my pocket, over and over again, but I chose to pay it no mind. David was already there, waiting beside the car, and my nerves felt tight and restless. I knew I was behind schedule.
I looked down at my watch as I made my way across to the driveway. The time read 9:30 in the evening. My flight was set for 9:40, and although the airport was not a long drive from here, traffic in this city always seemed to have a will of its own.
“Mr. Anderson,” David called out, moving to open the passenger door for me. “We really should be on our way if you intend to catch that flight.”
