Kelly POV

Adrian always had a way of making me melt completely, whether I actually wanted him to or not. It might have been his deep and sweet voice, or maybe his steady persistence, or perhaps it was that disarming smile of his that made it so incredibly hard to tell him no.

I did not want to go out at all today, but he insisted on it. He did not really say much about the reason why, only that it was something important that we had to do. I resisted him at first, putting up a bit of a fight, but eventually I gave in and agreed. Harper was absolutely thrilled, of course, because she loved any kind of outing with her dad, no matter where the destination happened to be.

We came to a stop in front of Francesca’s restaurant, and the moment I saw where we were, my mood immediately soured and went dark.

Francesca. Why did it have to be here, of all the places in the city?
