Scarlett’s POV
“No.” I shook my head, blinking rapidly.
“Why would they be after me?” I attempted to get off the counter, to pace and let the tightness in my chest loose, but the alpha occluded my movement.
“Scarlett…I…” He hung his head, letting a loud sigh after his slight stammer.
“I have made a lot of enemies.” His voice was rough and low, it was as if he was muttering. His usual bravery faltered, while his eyes seemed distant.
“Sshh.” I placed my index finger on his parted lips, stopping him mid-sentence.
