Lena’s POV

I turned around to check if Hazel was still following me. I just met the woman when she arrived at the house to hand over some of her clothes to me. She introduced herself as Zephyrus’ sister’s friend. I know I acted ungrateful when I accepted the clothes and escaped without thanking her. Yet she followed me while I tried my best to keep her off my trail.

I didn’t want anyone to know about my whereabouts. This was my only chance to be free! My heart hammered in my chest as I scanned the horizon. There was no sign of Hazel around. Good, that I could lose her so easily. I looked down from the summit of Mount Richardson at the never-ending stretch of boreal forests below me. I didn’t like the look of it, yet a strange magnetic pull seemed to beckon me towards it.
