Chapter 29

Veronica smiled as Adam burst through the door, shouting her name. “Veronica!” 

She struggled against the chair, shouting back to him. “I’m here, love.” 

Love? She paused as the words dropped from her lips. What? Was she in love with Adam, or had she spurted out the word without thinking because she was excited? She groaned, biting her lips, and closed her eyes briefly for a moment.

Adam grinned as he heard her call him love and watched with an amused smile the fleeting emotions on her face. He charged forward, knowing he was safe as Bruce was coming up his rear, protecting him. Two other cops were also flanking Bruce with their guns outstretched.

He winced as he saw how roughly tied up she was like a celebration ram, and a harsh growl escaped his throat. He would definitely make sure all those people pay for their sins against his sweetheart.
