Chapter 53
"Why did you suddenly drink so much?" His voice was filled with concern, yet it remained gentle.
Mirian giggled and leaned her head against his chest, her demeanor far from the prim and proper image she usually portrayed. "I know, Frederick, you care about me."
Her purse had fallen to the ground, and Carolina reached down to pick it up.
Red’s gaze briefly landed on her, and he then held Mirian close as they left the bar together.
Meanwhile, Kaylin stood up and helped Carolina to her feet. Among the three of them, Kaylin had consumed the least alcohol.
Red and Carolina exited the bar, leaving Kaylin and the still-drunk Mirian behind. As they walked away, Carolina couldn’t resist glancing back at Kaylin, who had a thoughtful expression on her face. She wondered if Kaylin had sensed the same complexities in Red’s behavior that she had.
Red and Carolina got into his car, leaving behind the mysteries and tensions of the night.
