“Don’t accuse me when you know nothing about it, Sydney. There’s more to this than you could ever imagine. If your brothers are instigating you against me, then you may confront them instead and find out the truth.” He sounded furious as he stormed out of the room. But I wasn’t letting this go. His callousness had made me lose control. I wanted my answer. 

Dashing after him, I blocked his path. “Don’t you dare walk away, Killian! I want to know what’s going on. Why are you after my family and their business? I won’t leave you until I know it all. You’ve taken my dad’s life. Can’t you spare my brothers? Can’t you return the business to them?” 

My voice quivered as I felt my throat choke with helplessness. I hadn’t wanted to fight with him, but he left me with no choice. “Please, Killian, for my sake? I’ll do anything you ask me to. If you release their business, I’ll be indebted to you forever.” I searched his cold eyes that r
