Sophia's POV

I woke with a start, my eyes slowly adjusting to the dim light of the room. Derick stood near the door, his back to me, speaking quietly into his phone.

I strained to catch the other side of the conversation, but nothing came through clearly enough to make sense of it.

My mind was already elsewhere anyway, circling the same question it had been circling for days: how was I supposed to find the truth behind the attack on my parents.

Once Derick left the room, I knew I couldn’t wait around for answers to find me. I needed to go looking myself.

The CCTV footage from earlier came back to me, and something about it pulled me toward the woods where the Black Bird Wolves had last been seen.
