Chapter 2

At this moment, Lucas mustered the strength to pull Isabella closer and shouted: "No, Isabella, you must not marry that despicable man. Even if I die, I won't allow you to marry young Master Brown."

Witnessing this scene, Lagan angrily hurled a teacup at Lucas, but due to his slow reflexes, it struck Lucas's head instead. Seemingly unsatisfied, Lagan lifted his walking cane, ready to hit Lucas, as a terrified Isabella clung to her father.

However, the cane stopped midair, unable to descend: "Who gave you the right to hit my father-in-law?"

A powerful voice demanded, forcing Lagan to step back. Everyone from the White family stared in shock at the speaker.

"Matthew Wang!?"

"It looks so different..."

"Is it him?"

Everyone in the White family was taken aback, as they hadn't sensed Matthew's arrival.

"You damn brat! I have every right to discipline my granddaughter, and who the hell are you?" Despite feeling the pressure of Matthew's presence, Lagan didn't back down, maintaining an air of arrogance, he sought to assert his position as the consecrated head of the family: "You, a useless man, have no right to say anything!"

Matthew countered, each word a blow to Lagan's ego: "Even if I'm useless, I won't let my wife or father-in-law suffer harm. And for a presumptuous person like you, it's best to remain silent."

With that, Matthew flicked the cane away, causing Lagan to wobble. It took considerable effort for Lagan to regain his footing, his pride wounded in front of his family.

"You dare to speak? Wasn't Matthew once renowned at the top, only to end up as a beggar?" Rosa, a wife of Farley White and the family's second child, mocked.

"Why don't you just leave? Are you here to leech off the White family?" Farley sneered.

Eager to curry favor with Lagan, the couple didn't hesitate to belittle Matthew. Observing this, Dante White, the third son, said: "Why not? Haven't we, the White family, become so famous in recent years that everyone knows us? It's only natural for him to return and seek a meal."

"Is he even worthy?" Lagan's anger slightly subsided upon hearing that, but he couldn't resist looking down on Matthew.

At that moment, Isabella finally realized that the man standing there was indeed Matthew, though he looked darker and more robust than before.

An indescribable aura emanated from him.

"Matthew... when did you come back?"

Matthew clumsily helped Lucas and Isabella onto the chairs.

He tried to be gentle, but his movements were uncomfortable due to years of battle-hardened training.

"I'm back now. I'm sorry for all the hardships everyone has endured. It won't happen again."

Seeing Isabella's tear-streaked, red face, she was still enchanting, being called the most beautiful girl in Blue Sea City.

"Why? Just an apology and it's all over? You..."

All the pent-up resentment and unspoken words.

How much humiliation and endurance did she go through? When she needed him, he left, and what good would his return do now?

"I don't need your apology."

Isabella didn't want to accept his apology.

"Matthew, you're back."

At this moment, Lucas spoke up. After all, Matthew was here, and Isabella wouldn't be married off to that pervert. Although he didn't have high hopes for Matthew achieving anything significant, as long as he refused to divorce, his daughter wouldn't be thrown to the wolves.

"Hmph. Don't think that you two can be at ease with this useless guy here. The same question, Isabella, do you want to scram or get into Brown Young master's bed?"

Seeing Matthew, Lagan felt irritated, but the White family's plan for growth had to continue.

Only Matthew couldn't do anything.

"Take this $10 million, sign the divorce papers, and go wherever you want."

After saying that, Lagan gestured to Farley to prepare the paperwork and money. Farley hurriedly prepared a $10 million check and pre-written divorce papers. They originally planned to forge signatures and use connections to end the marriage.

With Matthew's appearance, things became more manageable.

"Here's a check for $10 million, and here are the papers. Sign them!"

Slapping the check on Matthew's face, Farley sneered.

"You think our marriage is worth just $10 million?"

He spoke with a slightly harsh tone, frowning at Lagan. On the other side, Lagan slowly sat back in his seat, feeling somewhat relieved.

He thought Matthew was complaining about the amount.

"For a poor wretch like you, $10 million is enough. Do you want something for nothing?"

Dante chimed in, hoping to please Lagan.

"Matthew, let me tell you. A young, strong man like you should find a temporary place to live, get a job, and live day by day. That's great. Isabella will be well-dressed and live in a nice house, isn't that good?"

"Right! If you can't care for your wife, let someone else do it. Don't make her suffer."

Rosa added her two cents. Sitting in his chair, Lagan nodded with satisfaction, watching the White family members continue to ridicule Matthew.

"Divorce? Do you want to force my wife to marry someone else? Don't even think about it."

Just then, Gavin, the fourth child of the White family, rushed in, looking anxious: "The Brown master is getting angry, are you all done? It was hard for me to find such a good connection..."

"Thud!"

Suddenly, Gavin was knocked to the ground by of Matthew's teammates, James, with a single punch. Gavin felt numb, his cheek burning.

The faces of the White family members froze, and Lagan didn't expect his beloved nephew to be beaten by a so-called useless person.

"You damned bastard, what are you doing? Do you want to die?"

As he spoke, Lagan stood up abruptly, pointing a stick directly at Matthew's face.

"Bang!"

Unable to contain his anger, Farley charged toward Matthew, intending to land a punch in his face. However, before he could even touch Matthew, James kicked him away, sending Farley's plump body stumbling back onto a chair, his chest aching in pain.

"Who are you to act so arrogantly in the White family's house? Where is everyone?"

Lagan yelled furiously.

James positioned himself protectively in front of Matthew while Gavin, covering his face, scurried behind Lagan.

"Whoever dares to insult my wife must die!"

Matthew's every word pierced the ears of everyone present.

"Where is everyone? Are they all dead?"

Lagan felt humiliated. The White family, after all, was one of the prestigious families in Blue Sea City. How could they let an incompetent nobody insult them like this?

"Isabella is a member of the White family. Whoever I choose to marry her off to, she must follow. Who the hell are you?"

"She's my wife. She's no longer a member of the White family."

Matthew declared confidently.

"You... you... If I want her not to be your wife anymore, she won't be! Where is everyone? They're all gone!"

Lagan trembled with rage.

"If you're talking about the gatekeepers, they won't be able to come in."

James seemed to be reminding him.

The White family members were highly contemptuous, seeing Matthew and James in their shabby clothes and faces covered with dust.

They assumed the two were poor, lowly brawlers who knew a bit of fighting. Deep down, they feared these two would take desperate measures, potentially causing them harm.

All they saw when they looked at the two were cheap disdain. If they knew they were in the presence of the renowned War God Alpha Wolf and General James, one of the four famous generals of Sun Flower Country, they would have been willing to grovel at the feet.
