Elias’s POV
One Year Later
“Hey, Tommy, what’s going on out there?” I called, leaning forward in my seat and craning my neck slightly, as if that alone might help me see past the chaos in front of us. Through the windshield, a dense sea of people flooded across the street, completely blocking our path. They waved placards above their heads, some shouting, others chanting in rough unison, their voices muffled by the glass and the hum of the engine.
Thomas squinted, leaning in until his face was almost level with mine, his brows pulling together as he tried to read the signs. “Beats me, Elias,” he said, his tone flat. “Some sort of protest, I guess.”
