Maya’s POV
I realized I was slipping only when I felt Elias’s hands on my back, gripping me to keep me upright. My head spun as I glanced at the photo frame that had clattered to the floor, then back at Tara, whose frantic calls of my name seemed to echo in my ears like a distant alarm.
“I–I don’t understand…” I stammered, dropping the frame in shock. Elias bent down and picked it up.
Adrian is Marisol’s son? No, that can’t be. He’s a Brooks. His mother is Claudia, Richard’s wife. Could it be that Marisol and Richard were—something—in the past?
“Maya,” Elias said gently, his voice at last cutting through my daze. “Are you okay?”
“Maya?” Tara’s confused tone made both of us flinch.
“Oh shit,” Elias muttered under his breath.
