Maya’s POV
Two years ago
“Here.” Adrian lifts the lid off a small, cardboard box. Inside, nestled on a tiny silk cushion, lies a delicate gold ring carved with intertwining vines.
“We’re married now, so I thought this was appropriate,” he says softly.
“Oh, Adrian…” My heart soars right out of my chest at his gesture. I glance down at his hand and notice he already wears the matching band. Almost unable to hold back tears, I watch as he carefully lifts the ring from its pillow and brings it toward my finger.
“We never had a formal ceremony,” he continues with a gentle smile, “so I hope this will suffice.” He squeezes my hand before releasing it, and I feel a warmth that fills me completely.
