“Tell me what you mean by that?” Madison asked Vera again.

Nathan was frozen now, he couldn’t even rotate his neck.

Vera and Nathan maintained their silence with only the questions from Madison defiling the sterility of the serene moment.

“Do you know Nathan?” Madison asked again, a different question this time around.

“One of you should speak to me!” She was louder this time than she was the last time she asked.

“Yes,” Vera replied to Madison. “I know Nathan, I’ve known him for so long.”

“And why didn’t you tell me?” Madison asked her.

“Because I am no longer friends with him,” Vera responded.

“And what did you mean by our relationship was built with lies?” Madison questioned Vera directly.

“Your husband would be in the best position to answer that.” Vera placed the responsibility of answering the question on Nathan’s shoulders.

“Vera,” Nathan whispered but wasn’t enough to not be heard by Madison. “What are you doing?”
