Chapter 35. Into the Lion’s Den
Night falls over the woodlands, the moon waning and nearing its third quarter. Among the shadows of the trees, the Hunters are one with the darkness, with several more standing on the cliffside overlooking a road, one of many checkpoints. Justin exhales as he remains lying on the ground, his crossbow trained on the road leading west, and an aged voice asks, “Anything?”
“Not yet sir…”
Alexei stands scanning the area when a hand smacks him on the back, and he turns to have Kiran comment, “You’re unfocused.”
The Hunter opens his mouth to retort, stopping short, then he asks, “Will he be okay?”
“Only if you keep your mouth shut,” Kiran snaps. The older Hunter sighs, and he continues, “That fool’s dug a hole deep enough to be his grave.”
Justin starts, “Um, sir? You’re not going to believe this, but-”
Gregor steps up and asks, “Is it the vampire?”
“I’m not sure; it looks to be a black rider on a pale horse,” Hunter points out the galloping figure
