Chapter 55

Robert plans to invite the Lieutenant here, to his house for a meeting. We all know how badly the Lieutenant wanted that grant from Robert’s company before; so bad that he was willing to let me go after he had finally caught me.

“How do you know if it would work this time?” I ask Robert and he smiles.

“It’s going to be a sizable donation, baby. One that he would not resist.” He says confidently.

“Okay, then ring him up,” I tell him.

This may be a good plan, but people are unpredictable. The last time the Lieutenant accepted that grant was because his department needed it.

They had retired all their resources on a case that got them nowhere, so it was a major loss.

“Sure,” Robert says as he takes his phone from his jeans pocket. He clicks on the screen several times and then the phone begins to make a call.

“Fingers crossed,” I say and he glances at me seriously.

He seems nervous but at the same time, he does not.
