Chapter 71

I wake up from the couch and I walk towards Chad. Robert and Carlos observe the bruise on James’s jaw as we leave.

Chad leads me to his bedroom and we both sit on the bed.

“Are you ready to tell me what happened?” He asks and I chuckle nervously.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I say as I try to loosen my messy bun, allowing my hair to fall to my shoulders.

“Jen...don’t play with me. James did not fall, did he?” He inquires and I clear my throat.

“See, I know when you lie, you have a tell. It’s a very small one, but it’s there. Every time you lie, you do it.” He explains and I am intrigued.

Really?

He is very observant, I will give him that, for even I didn’t realize that I had a tell.

“What’s the tell?” I ask him as I purse my lips.

“I’m not telling you. You would just find a better way to lie the next time.” He says and I chuckle, for he is right.

“Now, spit it out. What happened when we were gone?” He asks once again.
