Chapter 13
On the way back, the silence was less tense than it was when they were going. Jolene played with her hands, wringing them together as she smiled in amusement, thinking of how Tristan’s veins had almost popped out of his veins when Alvin flirted with her.
She chose to believe it was because he liked her. No boss would be that concerned about his secretary, or maybe they would, but she deluded herself into thinking that she reminded him of the Jolene he had sworn to love forever.
“Are you okay?” He asked, breaking into her thoughts.
She cleared her throat, sitting upright. “Oh, yes, I am. Thank you, sir.”
He sighed. “Don’t mind Alvin. The man is an incorrigible flirt.” An amused yet exasperated smile flitted across his face. “I, sometimes, do not know what to do with him.”
“It is okay, sir.”
“Thank you for being understanding about it. I would hate you to feel like I took you to a place where you got harassed.”
