In the absence of Bea, who had already left for school, Ian showed up at her house. However, Ian found himself lacking the necessary qualities of bravery and confidence, without being reckless or thoughtless, to attend school that day. His hesitation derived from the haunting words he had heard from Bea, leaving him uncertain if they were mere figments of his imagination or stark reality.
