“Hey, do you want some apples?” Joe asked, placing the plate of apples in front of Rose. She glared at him and then picked up an apple from the tray. “I didn’t make it snow,” Joe said with a shrug.
“Doesn’t make it less hurtful,” she retorted.
“I’m sorry,” he said with a shrug for want of what to say. She twisted her fingers, and he watched her silently, intrigued by her persona. “Something isn’t right,” he said, sitting beside her. She took a bite of the apple and turned to stare at him, an inquisitive look on her face. “Storm accepting to have the vaccine sent to America was too easy. It couldn’t have been because of the threat. He has something up his sleeves.”
“Can we please give it a rest for now? He has made a promise to do something. We should leave him be,” Rose said tiredly. Shaking his head, he sucked on his lips and nodded.
“I’m sorry,” he said. She gawked at him, astonishment evident on her face.
