Chapter 27

Rose barged into Joe’s office, forcing him to lift his head from the file he was working on to stare at her. The frown of confusion on his face slowly turned into one of worry when he saw how sad Rose looked. Quickly, he rose from his chair and rounded the desk. He got to her and stared down at her, searching her eyes.

She wrapped her hands around him, cutting him short and stunning him. It took him a few seconds to understand what was going on, but when he did, he engulfed her in his arms, giving her the comfort she desired. She sniffled, and when he tried to break the hug so he’d see her face, she held on tighter.

“Rose, what happened?” He asked, his voice a worried whisper.

“Storm!” That was enough to make his heart drop. He pulled back and stared at her, trepidation traveling through his veins.
