Chapter 4
The man didn't know what Hearts would do next, so he didn't act right away. Heart's thin arm reached through the window and grabbed him by the neck. His eyes were wide with surprise and fear.
"Do you think that being wealthy gives you the right to insult other people? "Man, I'm sorry, but this time you've found someone who can defend herself!" Heart didn't give the man a chance to answer. Her fist hit him hard in the face, and she kept one hand on the man's shirt collar.
"That is what you get for calling me a hooker!" Heart yelled and hit his face with her fist again. "And that's for making fun of someone you don't even know!" she added quickly before letting go of the collar.
"You little-"
Heart didn't wait for the man to finish talking any more. She ran quickly when she saw him take off his seat belt.
"Do you think you can catch me? Huh! In your nightmares! "This is what you get for calling me names!" Heart can't help but smile as she runs quickly into the hotel.
The hotel's third floor...
When the elevator door opened, my heart had already stopped racing. Her face was nice, which was different from when we saw her in the parking lot. "Is this the right place?" Heart when he opened the door and smelled the expensive perfume mixed with alcohol.
Heart can tell that only powerful and wealthy people in the country are invited to the event. The venue is set up in a world-class way. "This place is enchanting," she murmured as she looked up at the glowing chandelier.
"Heart you, William!" Mr. Lim called, and when he looked at her, he couldn't hide the twinkle in his eyes.
Heart saw Mr. Lim right away in the crowd. He was waving, and when Heart saw him, she said something to the group and then walked toward her.
Good night, Mr. Lim. "I'm sorry I'm late," Heart said with a shy smile to her boss.
"You look gorgeous tonight," Mr. Lim told Heart as he kissed her hand.
She took her hand away because she felt uneasy. "Mr. Lim, I don't think I'm good enough for this. Please call Anna. She's the best person for this." While explaining, Heart's voice was soft. Even though she had $5 million in the bank and had lived in New York for five years, she couldn't go to any events. She would rather be at home with her mother and son.
"Don't be afraid. You're just what I need tonight. "You'll learn a lot," said Mr. Lim as he sipped his champagne.
“But-”
"Ms. William, you already know that both our company and the other competitor wanted the 'De Silva's project, right?" Mr. Lim says something and looks at her.
Heart nodded. Because the engineering department has been working so hard for the past month to finish the biggest project of the year, she will never forget that project.
"Well, tonight is the start of the bidding," Mr. Lim said.
"Sir, this is just one more reason why I shouldn't be here. I've worked for your company for six months, so my boss should be here," she said, worried about what might happen tonight.
"Why don't you believe in yourself? This night will give you a lot of chances," Mr. Lim said, and then he called for drinks. "Ms. William, if you did a great job tonight, you'll get a huge bonus," he said with a smile.
As Heart looked down the hall, Mr. Lim handed her a glass of wine. She doesn't know if she can help the company get the job. Heart never tries to meet new people because of the fast year. In fact, she wouldn't have looked for a job if she hadn't spent all her money six months ago.
"Why aren't you drinking?" When Mr. Lim saw that the champagne was still full, he said something. "Don't tell me you're not used to drinking anything, not even champagne," he joked.
Heart would never admit that she doesn't know how to drink, so she shook her head and smiled only occasionally.
As he raised the champagne glass, Mr. Lim gave a big smile. "Then let's all cheer for the company's success."
Heart took a deep breath and stopped being uncertain. "Cheer... for the success of the company," she said over and over.
Heart quickly drank all of her champagne after the cheers, leaving nothing.
While that is going on, Mr. Lim puts his glasses back on and looks thoughtfully at Heart. At the corner of his mouth, you can see a sly smile.
After a few minutes, the champagne made Heart feel dizzy, so she put down her glass and got herself together. She wanted to ask for water to cool her throat down, but there was already a lot going on.
She muttered, "What's going on?" as she looked at where everyone was staring at the entrance to the event hall.
"At last, they've arrived! Get ready, Ms. William." Mr. Lim whispered to the group while looking at the last person to join.
Everyone's faces showed that they were excited, but Heart's turned pale right away. "That's the guy in the parking lot..." she murmured. She can't be wrong—the man has a beautiful face and eyes that can see right into your soul. Heart will never forget this man.
"They are the leaders of the Phantom Corporation, and the one in the middle is Demon Montemayor. He is the heir to the Montemayor empire," says Mr. Lim, noticing Heart's question.
Who hasn't heard of the Montemayors? The family is the richest clan in the whole city, and Demon Montemayor is their next in line.
They own big projects, which is why businesses in the city are competing to work on their multi-billion dollar projects. And Heart worked for one of these companies, the Lim Construction Company.
Heart was surprised when Mr. Lim grabbed her arm, so she couldn't stop him from pulling her, but his grip got stronger. "Let's go, Ms. William. "We need to get close to Mr. Montemayor," he said in a whisper as he watched the crowd move toward the group of Montemayor supporters.
Heart didn't have to look in the mirror to know she was scared. "Sir, I'll go to the bathroom first..." she thought as she took Mr. Lim's hand. Everyone knows that Demon Montemayor can't be touched... Everyone in the city worships him, and Heart just punches him twice in the face. So, if she wanted to get out of this hotel alive, she had to hide from the man.
"No! After you talk to Mr. Demon Montemayor, go to the bathroom!" Mr. Lim gave her a hug, which made Heart even more shocked.
"Okay, but let me go!" Heart answered back, clenching her fist so she wouldn't hit Mr. Lim. She already hit someone tonight because she was angry, so she shouldn't hit another person.
"Don't you see, Ms. William? Everyone here wants to get close to Mr. Montemayor... So, we have to do everything tonight. If we close the deal with his empire, the company's profits will triple, and you'll get a huge bonus because you're with me tonight." As they got closer to where the people were going crazy, Mr. Lim told them what was going on.
Heart looks at Demon Montemayor. The guy has a lot of confidence and dignity, and Heart no longer wonders why he talks the way he did in the parking lot, given his status in society. Everyone has to follow what Demon Montemayor says.
(Wow, I can't believe there are people in this world who are so lucky. Demon Montemayor must be one of them. Heart said to herself, "Except for his money, he's really handsome."
Demon Montemayor was surrounded by a lot of women and businessmen, which made Mr. Lim's smile slowly fade. Then he looked at Heart, and a thought came to him.
Mr. Lim took advantage of the fact that there were a lot of people around. He acted like he was going to let go of Heart's hand to get everyone's attention.
"Mr. Lim-" Heart didn't get to the end of her sentence before she felt a push on her back. Then, when she fell, Heart heard the cloth tear.
"Ahh…"
Everyone in the hall stopped when they heard a high-pitched scream, and then they all looked for the source of the sound.
"Ms, your dress is torn," one of the guests told her.
Heart knows that already. She can't stand up or move because she knows that when she does, her whole body will be on show.
(That jerk pulled on my dress, dammit!) She thought of a bad word while she hugged herself.
Heart shuts her eyes tight when she realizes that everyone is looking at her. She was so ashamed that she prayed to be eaten by the ground.
(Why do I have such bad luck today? Did I murder someone in my past life?) As I covered myself, my mind was full of anger.
