Chapter 19. Making It Work

When they stepped into the house, Matilda was waiting for them with tears in her eyes and an expression on her face that made Carla's heart clench.

"Are you two alright?" She gasped as she looked them over, sniffing their bodies, curiously. "Someone told me you got into another fight with Kayden and Beta had to end it. What were you thinking, Mark?!"

He walked past her and took a seat on the couch with a heavy sigh. 

"I wasn't," he confessed with a shrug. "I was upset, Kayden and his group of egotistical idiots were doing what they do best and I attacked without thinking."

He looked up at her worried face and then looked away. "I'm sorry, I'll be more careful next time."

"Oh, so there's going to be a next time?" She questioned with her hands on her waist and a thunderous look on her face.

"We both know I'll be lying if I say no, so let's not do this," he pleaded, tiredly then glanced over at Carla.
