Chapter 40. Bad Days Ahead
Breakfast was tense as the young adults ate dinner's leftovers while trying to ignore each other's existence.
Carla had only ever been in one relationship, when she was twelve and had decided to 'date' the son of one of her dad's rival professors to piss her parents off.
It had been a short-lived affair that ended when Carla realised no amount of her parents' curled lips and tense smiles was worth having to pretend she liked his disgusting sweaty hands and 'cool' nonchalance.
Which meant she had very little experience with handling a lover's quarrel and she was forced to wait for Mark to apologise for his stupidity like she had thought he would, yet he remained unbothered by the pointed looks she had been giving him when he first walked into the kitchen.
His indifference worsened her already sour mood and her anger had grown so intense the human was one teeth scrape against the spoon away from exploding.
