Chapter 42. Bad Things to Come

A loud bang exploded in the once-quiet house, a deafening sound in the early morning air.

Carla startled awake, wide blue eyes flitting around her bedroom for what could have made the frightening noise.

Mark's groan reached her ears, and she was racing out of bed to find him before she could think of how dumb it was to be blindly rushing into danger.

"Mark?" She called out as she approached the bathroom, eyeing the door that hung off a single hinge and was covered in small cracks, with a frown.

There goes what little privacy she had living with a guy who had senses on steroids.

She turned to the brunette man standing hunched over by the sink and hurried over to his side, her concern growing when she saw the sweat blanketing his skin and the way his clawed hands that gripped the sink—so tightly cracks had appeared, were trembling.
