I was caught off guard by how suddenly the tears came. Her head was just on my chest while she tried to catch her breath, and all of a sudden a sound like she was choking tore from her throat.
I was on the verge of panicking, thinking something had happened, or I had been too rough. But then I held her face, a question at the tip of my tongue, but when I saw her face, all the words died on my tongue.
She was sobbing, weeping so hard that her entire body shook and the tears were streaming down her face, no, they were pouring out without restraint.
I still held her face, my eyes wide, my heart kicking against my chest. What was I supposed to do in a situation like this? Comfort her? But how? How do you comfort humans in a situation like this?
