Chapter 20. Don’t Let Them Take Me

Levi’s POV

Lotus is sitting at her vanity with Maximus at her side. He is teaching her how to apply makeup, but I don’t like how close he is to her. Each time he leans in, I have to suppress the growl in my chest. He is too familiar with her, and I don’t like it. Perhaps I will have to remind him that she belongs to us.

A smile spreads across her face, and a squeak comes from her lips. Maximus’s eyes widen. I think it is the first time he has heard her make any sound. He glances at me for guidance, but I nod toward the doorway. His reluctance is apparent, but he doesn’t defy me.

Slowly, he gets to his feet and rests a hand on her shoulder. “I have work to do.”

Lotus frowns, but doesn’t stop him from leaving. When the door closes behind him, she turns a defiant gaze in my direction. Her arms cross over her chest, and she scowls.
