Chapter 36. Don’t Make Me Choose
Lotus’s POV
The healers finally leave when Levi growls one too many times at their fussing. They bow out quickly, their hands full of herbs and bandages, but I stay.
Of course, I stay.
I hover in the corner of this room, waiting for him to acknowledge me. We haven’t spoken since the battlefield, and I get the strange feeling that he is angry with me. I blink back the tears in my eyes as I watch him
Levi reclines against a mound of pillows, bare chest streaked with dried blood where my magic sealed his wounds. He looks pale and worn, but his eyes… they glimmer with something raw and unspoken.
Pushing myself off the wall, I step to his bedside and dip my hands in the water left by the healers. I wring out a cloth in the basin beside the bed and press it gently to his skin, wiping away what the healers didn’t dare touch. The water has gone cold, but I don’t dare to leave his side to refresh it. He doesn’t flinch at the cold, though his gaze softens.
