Kate’s funeral service weighed heavily on my heart. Her parents made their hatred for me clear with every cold glance. I could sense the pack’s fear; the quiet unease as mysterious deaths loomed over us. Even without knowing the full truth, the wolves could sense the missing power among the pack elders. Their absence left a void, a darkness that unsettled us all. After the funeral, I asked Kate’s parents to stay behind. I needed to honor her memory, despite the bitterness between us.
In the office, I gathered my courage, wanting to do right by Kate. “Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, I, Alpha Kayden, wish to award Kate Robinson the Martyr’s Medal for her service.” I handed over the medal, and Kate’s mother took it with trembling hands, her eyes brimming with tears.
