"It's not about interest," he finally answered after what felt like an eternity. "It's about doing what's right." But I wasn't buying it. The way his eyes flickered, the slight hesitation before he spoke—it all hinted at something deeper. He wasn't avoiding this because it was wrong; he was avoiding it because he was afraid.
