Because I had just finished reading Kara’s diary entry, my grip on the journal loosened, and before I knew it, I had dropped it. My chest tightened as an overwhelming wave of panic washed over me, my breath quickening before I could even understand what was happening. The words blurred on the page, the lines smudging into a haze as my vision narrowed.
I couldn’t focus—I could only hear the deafening sound of my heartbeat hammering in my ears, faster and faster, like a drum growing louder with each passing second.
Without realizing it, my hands began to tremble violently, and the world around me spun. My body froze for a moment as if paralyzed, but my mind raced, every thought too much, too fast. My heart felt like it was about to leap out of my chest.
