I almost caught him. My hand was so close to grabbing the stalker’s hoodie, fingers brushing against the fabric as I lunged forward. But he was quick—too quick. Just as I reached out again, he twisted sharply into another alley, disappearing into the shadows.

Von, who had arrived moments earlier, was hot on his trail as well. He turned the corner just as I did, but before either of us could act, the stalker whirled around, a flash of silver glinting in his hand.

“Watch out!” I shouted, my voice cracking with desperation.

But it was too late. The blade sliced through the air, and Von staggered backward, clutching his side. Blood seeped through his fingers as he tried to steady himself against the wall, his face contorted in pain.

“Damn it!” Von hissed, his voice tight but composed. “I almost saw his face…”

The scene was pure chaos, and my mind was racing. Suddenly, the sound of a gunshot rang out, cutting th
