Chapter 48
Alanna came home very tired, worn out, and sad. The day had been crazy. The house was full of people. Outside, she could hear the children laughing, but she didn’t want to see anyone. She just wanted to have a nice bath, her whisky, and lie down without hearing any noise. In fact, she just wanted to disappear from the world. Her stomach hurt, her head hurt, her chest hurt. She just wanted to cry. She stopped the car outside her house and stayed in the car for a few minutes, too exhausted to get out.
Alanna leaned on the steering wheel. A few tears trickled down. Then she heard some knocks on the window. She wiped her face and looked over to see Vanessa standing next to her.
“Damn, I forgot Vanessa.” She rolled down the window.
“Busy day? What happened?”
“A lot. I was just getting up the courage to go in. I just wanted a shower and a bed.”
“I’m sorry, but I need to talk to you urgently.”
