Vanessa woke up hours later. Alanna was asleep, so Vanessa got up and looked for her cell phone. There were some 464678 missed calls from Anthony. As she went downstairs, she heard Anthony’s voice talking to Matheus. They were actually complaints. Anthony said he was tired of Vanessa and her secrets with Alanna and that this situation was becoming unbearable.

“Vanessa belongs at home. I want another child, and she should be preparing for that, not sleeping around like a teenager.”

“Look, Anthony, Alanna is ill, and it’s only natural that her best friend is around.”

“Matheus, Alanna’s family is you and your offspring. Zack and I are Vanessa’s family, each in our own square.”

Vanessa was tired of living like this, of having a relationship in tatters with a man who was totally self-centered and selfish. Did he love her? And of course, in almost 18 years of marriage, there were happy times. But was this marriage worth keeping? Vanessa took a deep breath. She was
