“Why do you always think I did something and never your father?”
Loud laughter invaded the kitchen.
“Mom! Dad would never do anything to hurt you.”
“Mary, I’ll have a cheeseburger with fries and a large Coke.” Everyone spoke in chorus.
“And juice for me.”
“You think your father’s a saint, don’t you?”
“He is!” Arthur looked at Mary and said, “I want pizza. You can order a large pepperoni and beer.”
“There’s beer in the fridge, love, but don’t drink it. I’ll look after the baby alone.”
“Then cut the beer, Mary.”
“What do you want, Mom?”
“Coffee?”
“You’ve had stomach cancer and you’re full of coffee,” Sofia said with her mouth full of ice cream while Rafaela tried to scoop some up with another spoon.
“Now you’re even going to make fun of my coffee? I haven’t seen anyone talk about Sofia’s cheeseburger.”
