Morning sun spilled through the large glass windows of Satin and Sage, casting warm light across the boutique’s polished floors and elegantly arranged racks. Amelia paused at the threshold, taking a deep breath as she adjusted her blazer. It was her first day back after three months of maternity leave, and although she had stayed active in managing the businesses from home, stepping back into the public space felt entirely different.
Hazel had insisted on accompanying her, carrying her school bag and chattering excitedly about how cool it would be to see Mommy at work. The twins, of course, remained safely under the watchful eye of Beth and Ryan.
“Are you ready, Mom?” Hazel asked, bouncing on the balls of her feet.
Amelia smiled down at her daughter.
“As ready as I will ever be, Hazel. Let’s go make today count.”
