Chapter 40

(Lena's POV)

Damien never spoke about his parents again; it was like he regretted even letting that slip. I couldn't help but pity him. I wish I knew how to help him, but I didn't. I couldn't help him.

The weird dream about the vampire was forgotten until today. I woke up with a start; all I could remember were dark red eyes staring at me and a slight pain, very close to the mark Damien had given me, there was another mark.

I hadn't told Damien about the previous mark, and it healed up quickly. I didn't know how I could hide this. My heart slammed faster. I had this strange feeling like I was being watched. Dark, deep red eyes were watching me. I was alone on the bed. Damien had informed me he would be leaving early for work.

There was a knock on the door, and my heart almost flew out of my rib cage. It was just Diego.

"Why do you look like you've just seen a ghost?" he asked me

'Nothing; you startled me."

"Why? Weren't you expecting
