Chapter 3. Wedding Ring

My eyes clouded as I watched the strong waves pounding the shore. The cold ocean breeze feels right and yet it brings pain in my heart.

I don’t know how many hours I just stared at the vast sea. Since I came here to San Marcelino I have come back here to the beach every day. Spending the day seemingly indifferent to what is going on around.

I glanced at my wristwatch and shook it slightly. Another day passed. I don’t know how I survived my day without him, without his touch, his kiss and his warm hug. I feel like I’m going crazy thinking about how I can get through the days to come without him.

I decided to just go back to the rented apartment. From the beach I decided to walk so that even for a moment my brain would be distracted by what I saw. This is not my usual routine but I find it good and relaxing.

But suddenly I stopped walking because of an oncoming vehicle. All I heard was a horn before my eyes darkened.

I could feel the heavy lids of my eyes, but I couldn’t blink because of the woman speaking next to me.

“Please, wake up don’t go to sleep!”

I tried to move my arm but I couldn’t, my hip hurt even more.

“Oh my God! Gab, where are you?!” The woman said it out loud so I was dilated.

She was holding her cell phone and was walking in front of me so I forced her to stand up so she turned to me.

“No! Don’t move or your injury will get worse!” she stopped me.

“I’m fine miss,” I said in a low voice.

“You’re definitely not, just wait a little more minute please?” Pleading he said so I went back to lying down.

I felt myself and I thought only my hip was sore and my elbow was sore. Moments later I heard the squeak of the car tire so I was blinded again.

He walks towards my direction, looking straight into my eyes. My lips twitched slightly, then you bit hard. My heart skip so fast, and I was tense. Only now did I feel my heart beating so hard for a long time. My tears started to seep down on my face and my emotions shattered like hell.

I also couldn’t help but look at it. Almost nothing has changed here. He was still looking good, his muscle tone defined how strong and healthy he is right now. Perfect jaw and a set of dark stonily eyes. I must say that his arm muscles became even more tense because of his white T-shirt. And the rest was perfect beyond his imperfection.

I wanted to open my lips for it to be called but that stare was quickly cut off when he glanced at the woman kneeling in front of me.

“Are you alright?” There was a hint of intense concern in his voice next to him especially when he grabbed the shoulder of the woman who was paying attention to me.

I was swallowed not because of the pain of the wound I had inflicted but because of the pain that drew in my heart.

“We need to take her to the hospital,” the woman said.

There he turned his gaze back to me and stared at me intently.

“We’ll take you to the hospital, tell me what hurts, okay?” His voice was full of authority, very far from the man I known before, very far from the man I loved the most.

I was not able to answer because he immediately loaded me without warning. Suddenly I was able to wrap my arms around his neck. He took a deep sigh as a sign of discomfort so I looked down at his chest but it looked like I did something more wrong because I was now staring at his wide chest.

At that point I closed my eyes firmly and tightly grasped his shoulder to get closer to me but I suddenly woke up when I heard him speak.

“Love...”

I wanted to shed tears at what he said and looked up at it him with dim eyes, but I immediately turned to the woman approaching.

“Yes, Dear,” said the woman who opened the car door for us.

“Okay, I’ll drive her to the hospital,” he said to the woman after I sat in the front seat.

“All right I’ll follow.” She quickly kissed the man in front of me.

He immediately turned to me after looking down at the seat belt that he quickly fastened before turning around in the driver’s seat and without warning he pulled it.

I closed my eyes at the speed of the car running, I wanted my heart to grow fast because I knew he worried about my condition.

I turned to look at him so he quickly turned to me.

“Is anything wrong with you?” he asked.

“I’m fine, you don’t have to take me to the hospital,” I said softly.

“No, we have to make sure you don’t have an injury or any fracture,” he impatiently said.

“But, I-I’m okay,” I answered back.

Again I heard a deep sigh coming from him. So, I just looked out the window. It was nearly dark but the sea could clearly see the beauty because of the sunset. I turned to him looking so busy driving.

I still remember everything about him because he never left my heart. I treasured the moment when he said that he would never leave me behind. That he would love me more than anything in this world. He promised me that he would hold my hands, and he would never let go whatever happened. But it’s all dead gone, because the man beside me right now was not the man who made the promise of forever.
