Emily’s POV

“Who’s got you all red like a tomato?” Ava asked from nowhere.

Startled, I jerked and immediately kept my phone face down.

“No one.” I answered, a little too hurried.

She chuckled.

“Really?” Her eyebrows rose dramatically and lips held a mocking smirk.

Giving in, I let out a sigh “Fine, it’s Jace.”

She smiled in triumph.

“Jace… Our hero guy?”

“Yup”

“Do you like him?” she asked with a teasing smile.

Before I could respond, she immediately added,

“Of course you do. Look at you, you’re all red. You should go out with him. Has he asked you out yet.”

Trust Ava to say so many things at once!

“No, I don’t like him.” She gave me a glare “Alright, maybe a little.”

Her face settled into satisfaction.

“And yes, he’s asked me out. Quite a number of times to be frank. I said no.”
