And that's what happened, Amy Whiteman was just his girlfriend in the name so no one questioned her after the incident and before the matter could be escalated any further she had already escaped abroad.  

When she found out that Louis had gone abroad,  Amy wasn’t happy as she knew Louis was smart and would do something to stand on his feet.

 But Shelly was still in Michigan and as she met Darcy regularly she knew about Louis’ whereabouts through her.  So when Darcy had told her one day that Louis was in  Budapest, she hired an investigator to investigate his whereabouts but somehow Louis came to know about it and escaped.  After that Louis was very secretive about his whereabouts and Darcy hardly knew where he was but finally, she was able to take out information from Darcy about his whereabouts and she informed Amy Whiteman about it.
