“If the factory would have burned down had gone that night it wouldn't have mattered,” she said. 'It wouldn't matter as long as you're safe.” She tossed back her hair in the small, proud gesture he had come to love.

'Darcy !'

He grimaced and Said. “What a bastard I was isn’t it no wonder you hated the sight of me in the beginning as I had lied to you about my identity?” 

Not any more, she wanted to say, but how could she without giving herself away? It might be better if he went on thinking it.

Then, with his hands on her shoulders, his eyes looking deeply into hers, he said, “Do you think we could start all over again, ”

His question utterly shocked her, and her heart clamoured so violently within her breast that it was painful as she was trying to coax him from leaving but he was speaking some other language altogether. “What do you mean?”  She said finally when she was able to find her voice.

“Exactly what
