The Bell House was the last place Mara wanted to take her mother.

It was also the only place Elara could open Central without physically entering the capital.

That combination produced an argument impressive enough that Lucien moved his chair farther away before it started.

"I am not connecting you to that tower again," Mara said.

Elara folded her arms. "You are not connecting me. I am connecting myself."

"That distinction is not helping."

"It should. You are very committed to choose when the choice is yours."

Mara looked at me with immediate suspicion. "Do not."
